1869 - Cieszyn on the route of the Košice - Bogumin railway line

In the history of the Habsburg monarchy, the second half of the nineteenth century was marked by the intense construction of railway lines, integrating vast parts of the country and at the same time ensuring security thanks to the possibility of a quick transfer of military units. One of such lines was the Košice-Bohumín Railway, connecting the northern line (Vienna –Krakow) in Bohumín via Cieszyn, Žilina, and Poprad with Košice in today's Slovakia. This line was built in 1869-1872, but the railway connection from Bohumín to Cieszyn was already opened in the first year of the investment. The Košice-Bohumín Railway line was 368 km long, it was initially single-track, but at the end of the 19th century, the construction of the second track began. The Silesian section was ready by 1915.
